The township is happy to announce we are starting our 2025 campaign for the Hometown Heroes Banner Program. This has been a project we have been diligently working on for 2 years. To get all approvals from PP&L and Brightspeed to allow the banners to be placed took longer than we expected, but we have gotten their blessing and we are ready to proceed with the project!!
Letters were mailed on February 25th to all resident of South Newton Township. If for some reason you do not receive a letter, please call the township secretary. We will be happy to send you the information.
Here’s what you need to know:
The South Newton Township Hometown Heroes Banner Program is a living tribute created for the community to recognize and honor our Veterans who have served or are serving our country in the United States Armed Forces.
Application Requirements:
To be considered for a banner, the nominee must meet the following requirements:
- Lived in South Newton Township/Walnut Bottom at some point in their lifetime.
- Be serving, have served with an honorable discharge, or died in the line of duty in one of the following branches: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or Space Force.
Banner Design, Timeframe & Location:
Banners are double-sided 30″x60″ heavy weight block out vinyl which holds up very well. The banners will stay up year-round. The banners will be displayed on PP&L and Brightspeed poles along Main Street in Walnut Bottom & the 1st block on a few of the side streets (i.e. Firehouse Rd., Furnace Hollow Rd., Water Street, Maple Ave. & High Mountain Rd.). Placement will be selected randomly. Specific display locations cannot be requested. We have a limited number of poles to hang the banners. We hope to have enough for everyone that sponsors a banner, but you may have to be placed on a waiting list if all poles are taken. If we have available poles after the initial 2025 sponsorship campaign, we will open up additional enrollment applications/sponsorships. We will post the additional application/sponsorship enrollment on our website, on the bulletin board outside the township office & on the post office bulletin board.
